NSHE Institutions are Key to Project Success

Each of NSHE’s member institutions is unique. Some are large, some are small—and none of them operate in quite the same way. When Workday goes live at NSHE in October 2017, it has to work for each and every institution, no matter their size or how they operate. Up to now, a lot of the Project’s efforts have been preparatory—working with institutions to analyze their business processes and unique needs and drawing up universally-workable solutions in Workday. Soon, the Project will have something tangible to show for all that hard work. NSHE’s second Workday prototype (P2) is the Project’s first opportunity to present institutions with something close to the finished product. Built using knowledge gained since the first prototype and stocked with real NSHE institution data, P2 will contain most of the features, functionality, and business processes that will be present in the live version. When it goes online, P2 will be about 85% of the way to what Workday at NSHE will ultimately look like and how it will function. This makes P2 a good place for all institutions to verify that NSHE’s Workday configuration will meet their campus-level requirements. To that end, the Project is enlisting personnel from every institution to participate in the next round of testing. System testing is an exhaustive examination of how information flows through the entire Workday system, and of how well Workday is meeting the needs of all eight institutions—both in terms of shared processes and singular practicalities. The Project is also giving key stakeholders access to the Project’s reporting tools so they can monitor testing progress in real time, and will begin conducting on-campus demonstrations in the near future. iNtegrate 2’s goal is to develop a system for sharing a set of common processes, while also ensuring each campus has the flexibility to operate and flourish as an individual community. Involving and engaging all eight NSHE member institutions in the Project’s daily progress is an important component to attaining that goal.
